It's my own private treasure.

I learned about it from Siskel & Ebert, who included it in an early 1980s "Overlooked Gems" show that they occasionally hosted on PBS' Sneak Previews.

This film, in my opinion one of the greatest American films of all time, really sustained me for years when this type of narrative depth went out the window for much of the 1980s-1990s. We saw few thrillers or film noirs with social commentary again up until L.A. Confidential.

I love the fact that you mention The Big Lebowski parallels. First time I've seen that fact mentioned anywhere else. I've brought up that parallel to film fans and Lebowski fans, to no avail. Validating to see it mentioned here.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-434879494642797092.post-46832972004097635262014-02-28T21:05:31.927-05:002014-02-28T21:05:31.927-05:00great, thank you for providing this i learn someth...great, thank you for providing this i learn something new and this just made me realize that i still have lots of things to learn.

www.joeydavila.netkellyhttp://www.joeydavila.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-434879494642797092.post-12191577054145011912010-07-12T19:31:20.562-04:002010-07-12T19:31:20.562-04:00I know this is an old post but everytime I see Big...I know this is an old post but everytime I see Big Lebowski this point needles me - is Lebowski's house the same set as Cord's?Thanksnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-434879494642797092.post-14699329999305898962007-08-04T02:26:00.000-04:002007-08-04T02:26:00.000-04:00nice post, man. i haven't seen the film, but real...nice post, man. i haven't seen the film, but really enjoyed the book, when recommended to me by the guy who used to manage Murder Ink, in NYC. I'd love to see the film, but it hadn't been released on DVD in America when I left. Perhaps i'll be able to track it down via bittorrent, but I'm not optimistic.

A few months after reading C&B (early 2000s), I came across another book, which featured a character called Chopper who was clearly a Cutter homage/ripoff. i f you or any of you readers know this book, I'd appreciate a comment as I'd like to track it down.

nice blog; bookmarked.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
