The Exciting Return of the Gil Kane Punch of the Week! Episode 39: Knuckle Under!

In an earlier Gil Kane Punch of the Week, supplied by Mike Sterling of Progressive Ruin fame, I featured a page from the 1984 DC Comics Presents Annual 3, written by Roy Thomas and Joey Cavalieri. At the time, I didn't have a copy of the comic, but I have since gotten my own, and I've discovered that the thing is wall-to-wall punches! So, I decided to get some more mileage out of this great issue.

Here's a particularly awesome set of panels, where a Shazammed-up Dr. Sivana fashions some kryptonite brass knuckles (as opposed to brass kryptonite knuckles) and delivers the Earth-1 Superman a devastating blow:

I would not mind seeing more of these kryptonite brass knuckles.

The position of the fist in the second frame troubles me considerably. Is Superman sterile after this event??

Superman probably IS sterile after that punch, yes. Kane had a talent for making punches appear to land in inappropriate places. :-)

Honestly, the proximity of the kryptonite to the area of concern, rather than an impression Superman had been hit below the belt, motivated the question. I'd appreciate Dr. K addressing these matters (what is steel, what is fertile, what is not, etc.) when time permits.

Well, Anonymous, I think Sea-of-Green is probably right here. And because Superman never reproduced after this event, I think the evidence is pretty overwhelming.

So you're telling us that the Man of Steel was sterilized by the impact of the punch and not the exposure of his nethermindyous to the kryptonite? I'm not contesting SOG's point that the punch/es land in inappropriate places (today's appears to be a backhand to the knee, which seems petty and strange), only the likely source of apparent sterility.(Also, do you mean to imply Superman reproduced before this event? Did he really?)
